Britannia
Britannia is a mega-scale offshore wind turbine designed for wind farms in the United Kingdom. The turbine generates 10 MW of power, enough electricity for the instantaneous demand of 7,500 homes. The structure reaches 180 metres in height with a blade span of 145 metres. Exterior panels are made from fibreglass composite mounted on an internal steel beam structure. Radiators cool the large generators, and their placement allowed air scoops to be used as styling elements. The interior space is arranged so that crew members can work and sleep inside during servicing.
Britannia 10MW Offshore Wind Turbine by Travis Baldwin has been highlighted as a grand representation of industrial design by the A' Design Award. Britannia 10MW Offshore Wind Turbine earned the Iron A' Design Award in Energy Products, Projects and Devices Design in 2019. The A' Energy Products, Projects and Devices Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design recognition program which celebrates superior design of solar panels, wind turbines, hydroelectric generators, geothermal systems, bioenergy converters, fuel cells, energy storage devices, smart grid systems and more.
