Hotaru
Hotaru is a reading chair with integrated lighting. The light stand also serves as a backrest, and the light falls on the hands of the person seated. The lamp turns on and off in the dark in response to people nearby. The position of the lighting can be adjusted back and forth. Hotaru is assembled from four parts, a seat, feet, a stand and a lighting unit, without metal fittings. The laminated plywood of the seat is left visible to show the warmth of the wood. Placed beside a bed, Hotaru also works as a side table and a lamp. The design suits homes with little space.
Hotaru Stool by Misaki Kiyuna was featured as an innovative illustration of industrial design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Hotaru Stool received the Bronze A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2023. The A' Furniture Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design award that celebrates excellent design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
