(Excerpt) Interview with Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : Change the idea of public furniture trough the design of public instruments in order to stimulate and generate recreation/leisure activities through sound (music) in the public space. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : Public furniture design focused on the real needs of the population. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : The idea is to improve and implement the project in other areas of Medellin and other cities of Colombia. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : The concept takes approximately one month due to the process because we went out to do research and recognition of the place of intervention. Then we developed collaborative work with the community to find out the design opportunities. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : We decide to pursuit an inspiration based on the design for the real needs of the community who bring us the opportunity to respond through design. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : It was produced by us in November 2015. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : We design this particular work due to an academic project developed at the university. .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : Yes, when we did the research process we find out examples of public furniture and music instruments, the latter developed with reused materials. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : Children, residents, visitors, workers and students that live or visit the intervened area. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : The context where is developed. It is the result of the integration of cultural practices that identify the community of the intervened area and the process of design developed for 6 months in an academic semester. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : "Sonoro” is the name project because the definition of sonority; as the condition or quality of being resonant (in this case a resonant object). The name is very close to the product function and it always shows its relationship with the music culture. .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : We focus on collaborative design to developed the project. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Kevin Javier Fonseca Laverde : The property of been a resonant object because the successful developed of the tight soundboxes of the drums. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design?
